I just finished watching The Nativity Story again. In a way, i feel that it is a story of Supporting characters. In that light, i would like to honor those who stand as amazing people who, even as part of the supporting cast in the story, say just as much as any other lead.
First, i want to take my hat off to Joseph, the father of Kuya Jess on earth. He obeyed God's will and showed strength, courage and great faith while in the service of the Lord. Little Jesus probably learned a lot from him aside from the carpentry skills he got. He was an amazing father, in my opinion. As Mary said in the movie, he gave much of himself for others. He was never mentioned much in the bible but his mark is probably seen in much of Jesus’ words and deeds.
Secondly, Mama Mary gets an award. Most probably cant imagine how hard it is to say “Let Thy will be done” but she did it and in the most extreme way. She faced ridicule and even death with that one statement but she did it.
The Three Magi gets my third vote. They didn’t really do much other than bring the gifts that was worthy for the King of Kings (gold) and the Priest of all Priests (frankincense). To honor the sacrifice He was to make, the last gift of Myrrh was presented. That was it but all their efforts to travel so far meant something. I showed that God was worth the journey. They had to leave their comfort zones and take only what they can carry to validate and honor Kuya Jess.
Last but absolutely not the least, I bring you Baby Jesus. Kuya Jess wins the award for best supporting character in the story. I don’t think I have to elaborate on why he wins the award. Then again, I really have to remind you of the sacrifice and the path He took to reach that point.
If everybody seemed like they were part of the supporting cast, who do you think was the main protagonist of the story? It is the one who John had to deal with to prepare the Way for Kuya Jess. It is the one who Kuya Jess sacrificed Himself for. The main character of the story is You.
